How this Driveway Project Got Started

We got a call from the Hinojosa family, they were needing some work done on their newly purchased property in Bedias, TX. They were asking for bids to build a driveway from the existing property entrance to where they wanted to build their new home. After a brief discussion on the phone, we scheduled a meeting at the job site, and we walked the project with them.

Since a recent rainstorm had dumped several inches of rain a few days prior to our meeting, we were able to see evidence of the low spots and general water flow. We mapped out a path for the driveway that wouldn’t need to include drainage to keep rising waters from washing out the new driveway going forward.

The customer preferred this location as the higher ground would be less likely to hold water. It would also be more economical since we would not need to purchase additional drainage pipe and materials.

To provide an accurate estimate we measured the distance and width of the proposed driveway to calculate the materials needed to complete the job.

This Driveway Project was a Four Step Process

First, we needed to peel up roughly 4” of vegetation and dirt. This excess soil was used to fill in a low spot elsewhere on the property. (picture 1 above)

Next, we brought in select fill clay to provide a solid base. (picture 2) We added a slight crown for water runoff, helping to keep water from ponding, adding longevity. After packing the clay in (picture 3) we started hauling in the limestone base and packed it as well.

Once all the material was hauled in and spread, we spent time grading and packing additional driveway material. The pictures above provide a before, during and after look of the project.

This gravel driveway is built solid. It will take a beating in the coming months due to construction traffic and heavy trucks moving building materials, but we’re confident it will hold up just fine.

Maintaining Communication with the customer

Maintaining communication with the customer through the entire project is always key to a successful build. In this situation the customer stated that from the start;

we answered the phone” and returned calls promptly (apparently some contractors don’t) They liked that we showed up on the date and time we scheduled and said that “other contractors did not communicate very well”.

All those little things made C & C’s Land Services the preferred contractor for this project. The fact that we were competitive in pricing made this project an excellent choice for our customer.  If you have a gravel driveway project or other land service needs, Call Us to Get it Done Right!
